This is a work-in-progress sketch that leans heavily into the atmosphere of early 2000s post-electronic music—particularly the textures and pacing you’d hear in early tracks from The Album Leaf. That’s both a source of inspiration and a bit of a challenge: it’s close enough in tone that I’m already feeling the pull to take it in a different direction, something more loop-driven and personally distinct.

Dust on wings, drawn to warmth. A lullaby in reverse—starting awake, fading to sleep. Tape warble and velvet tones. Almost a full day of trial and error from a simple idea that I just wouldn’t give up on. The initial loop came, with the flutters, then ZOA takes over the melody as the second arpeggiation comes in. Slowly the arpeggiation gives way to ZOA’s bassline. Koala is used to live sample sections of the song and play those back manipulated.

Comprised entirely of tapping on a desk, humming, and room noise run through multiple instances of Gauss and one instance of iDensity. This is a mellow, lo-fi track that feels comforting and unstable.

Horizon Scholar is essentially a tape loop run through a digital delay pedal, and recorded into AUM. The tape loop was played and manipulated live with the pedal, while the piano sound ran through the tape deck allowing for distant harmonies and "overdubs". It has minimal post processing, some compression and reverb, and a brief intermission of a distant old radio orchestra; it feels like remembering a verdant summer afternoon.
